Beginners guide to Valorant
Riot’s latest contender ‘Valorant’ is taking up the entire gaming community with a storm. With its worldwide release on June 2, 2020, many people are trying out the game for themselves. It has clearly been a very hyped game of this year and till now it is quite keeping people’s expectations up to the desired mark.
Valorant in brief
For people who are not already aware of what this game is about and where can they get it, Valorant is a 5v5 PVP First-person competitive shooter game often compared as a mixture of CS:GO and Overwatch. It has its own set of maps (that were build up from scratch), gun mechanics, Agent availability, and special abilities for individual characters. Many gamers are in favour of the smooth gameplay it offers via its 128 tick official server and its price which is absolutely free. This free to play game will be making money through in-game skins mainly which are completely just for cosmetic usage and doesn’t affect the gameplay in any way. It also features its very own anti-cheat software which does work most of the time with a good response even it is a little controversial at the beginning.
Guide for Valorant for new players
The main concept of the game is very basic, there are two teams in a game, one being the Attackers and the other being The Defenders. The job of the attackers is to eliminate all the opposing players or to either plant the Spike at bomb sites and ensure it to go off while guarding it from being defused by the defenders. The job of the defenders is to eliminate all the members of the opposing team or to guard the sites from getting planted with Spike by the enemy. Also, the Defenders can win the round if they are able to successfully defuse the spike after it getting planted. All these have to be done within a limited time frame of a few minutes each round.
Both the teams get their chances to play as attackers and defenders as the side changes after 12 rounds. The team to score 13 first in unrated and 4 in spike rush wins.
The game currently offers two main game modes, one is Unrated and the other is Spike rush.
In unrated, each team gets both the sides to play by changing sides after 12 rounds in total, player can buy guns and abilities for their respective character according to their liking and economical condition. The first team to win 13 rounds wins the game and both teams earn experience points according to the results, in which case winning obviously generates more XP points.
In Spike rush, each team gets to play both sides as side changes after 3 rounds in total. Players don’t get the freedom to buy guns or abilities of their own choice as they are offered new random guns each round. Sike rush has special orbs to collect in different places of the maps that offer abilities like upgrading the gun you have this round or an orb that gives to a golden gun with 2 bullets that will one-shot enemy and others that you can find in the game. The first team to win 4 rounds wins the game. It is a faster-paced game mode than an unrated mode.
Apart from these two, the game offers practice mode and custom game mode to host players their own custom unrated or spike rush games against friends. In the closed beta, Valorant introduced the ranked game mode which is currently absent in the fully released game but is soon to be implemented.
The game offers five unlocked agents and six locked agents that can be unlocked through leveling up.
The first five agents and abilities that are playable without unlocking are
Buyable: This a controller agent that can purchase 2 abilities from the buy menu. One is a steam beacon that grants increment in fire rate to anyone inside the specified range of the beacon. The other one is Incendiary, which fires through a launcher and burst after they come to a stop rather than soon at impact.
Signature: His signature abilty is sky smoke that he gets for free every round. Players can shoot smoke to block sight anywhere in the map through a smokescreen that lets you select the location.
Ultimate: Brimstone’s signature ability is Orbital Strike that allows players to deal with heavy artillery damage on a specified radius of the desired location.
Buyable: Jett is a duelist and she has to abilities that she can obtain through purchasing them in the buy menu per round. One is Cloudburst that is basically smoke that is mainly used to block opponent’s vison and her other abilty is Updraft that allows her to go up in air used to reach higher places that can not be reached by normal jumping.
Signature: Tailwind is her signature abilty that allows her to move very quickly with a sudden gust of wind. It is very useful while in a fight to escape enemy fire.
Ultimate: Her ultimate is a very difficult yet powerful one, it spawns a no. Of floating, knives around her can can deal high damage to the enemy player and even one shot kill them if it connects to their head. It requires precision but is really worth it.
Buyable: Phoenix is also a duelist and his two abilities that can be acquired through money in buy menu are one Blaze, which allows a player to spawn a firewall that can be located at the desired place and damages opponent players when they come in contact with it whereas it heals phoenix himself slowly. And the other one is Curveball that is basically a flash that can be steered by curving left or right from corners.
Signature: His signature is called Hot Hands which grants player a fireball that explodes on ground causing damage to enemy if they come in contact with it while healing phoenix. In other words, it works as a Molotov.
Ultimate: Phoenix’s ultimate is called Run It Back that, as the name suppose, gives him an extra life that he can use to push the enemy to secure kills or plant spike within a specific time limit after which it gets teleports him back to the place where he initiated the ability, also if he gets killed during that he regenerates back to that place where he used his ultimate.
Buyable: Sage is a medic and she has a vital role in the team. Her two purchasable abilities are Barrier orb that lets her creat a wide wall wherever she likes to block access which diminishes on enough damage or after some time. Her other ability is a slow orb that bursts on the ground on impact which slows players that walks through it including herself.
Signature: Her signature ability is called Healing Orb that regenarates lost health or in short words heals the teammate’s health or her own health depending on whom it is being used. It is very useful in gameplay.
Ultimate: Her ultimate is very powerful and essential as she carries the ability to revive dead teammates that are with the close radius. It is called Resurrection and it take few seconds to revive teammate causing both Sage and the teammmated being revived vulnerable to enemy fire for those few seconds.
Buyable: My personal favorite agent is Sova and he is an initiator. He acquires the ability of Owl Drone that lets players fly a drone with a camera into a short range to gather information and even tag enemy players. And the other ability is called Shock Bolt that shoots electrical arrows towards the enemy which detonates after a few seconds of impact. It often kills enemy players that have very low health points. Both these are purchasable through the buy menu.
Signature: Sova’s Siganture is called Recon Bolt that shoots an arrow towards places the players desires and it sticks to the wall or ground on impact. It then releases a couple charges/laser that detects enemy players’ location if they come in its contact. Very useful to acquire insights of sites on maps.
Ultimate: Sova’s Ultimate is called Hunter’s Fury which shoots electrically charged arrows that goes through walls causing heavy damage to enemy players standing behind on within its trajectory. It is very powerful but hard to control.
Apart from these five, players can unlock two more agents from the rest five with few days of playing while others need a little grind. The other six agents are Viper, Reyna, Raze, Cypher, Breach, and Omen. For new players, we would suggest to with the first five unlocked agents for some days and learn them properly before unlocking other ones. We personally would prefer to go with either Reyna, Omen, Raze, or Cypher as they offer crucial abilities and are quite useful to use to achieve tactical advantages.
Valorant prefer a variety of guns and most of them are quite hard to master for new players that are not much familiar with FPS games. It is highly suggested to try all the guns in practice mode and learn their proper use and to see which weapons suits for you.
Pistol: For Pistol, we’ll suggest sticking with the classic if on a low budget. If not then Ghost or Sheriff is the best option.
SMG: Just go for Spectre if you have the money as the stinger is can be quite hard to use on burst mode through the scope.
Shotguns: Personally we don’t use shotguns that much but if required both Bucky and Judge are pretty good.
Rifles: Among the four rifles, Phantom is the one we’ll suggest as it gives high damage and is easier to use than a vandal and is fully automatic both scoped and unscoped. We mean if you’re spending that much money for a rifle then why go for a burst mode or single fire one? (sorry not sorry Bulldog and Guardian).
Sniper: Hard to use but very impactful if mastered. Both Marshal and Operator are very good so it all comes down to your money situation on what to buy. Operator one shot kills so it must be everyone’s first choice.
Machinegun: Seriously? WE don’t know just pick anyone if you’re going to have fun.
Armor: Shields are important as it absorbs damage quite alot that actually impacts the game. If low on money go for light sheild and if not then HEAVY SHIELD, please.
These should be enough, for now, guess, enough to introduce you to the game. Enjoy!
