Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales
Insomniac Games landed on Play Station5 with a huge splash. After being purchased by Sony, the company is not only working on Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart, it’s also launching a new chapter in the spiderman world.
There’s a new web-crawler in the town and its none other than Miles Morales. This upcoming action-adventure game won’t be a traditional sequel as it will be a stand-alone on its own. New story, new quests, and most importantly, new villains. But something we know for sure is that Peter Parker is not completely out of the picture. Actually, Peter introduces Miles to the non-profit F.E.A.S.T. shelter where he was supposed to serve as a volunteer. Miles was not aware of Peter’s secret identity but eventually, he himself gains spider-like powers, he reveals them to his friend who in turn reveals being Spider-Man. Under Peter’s guidance, this fifteen-year-old teenager attempts to step as New York’s next masked vigilante Spider-Man.
The announcement of the game was followed by some confusion since it was taken to be some sort of sequel to the original game. Everything was cleared soon by Simon Rutter, Sony Interactive Entertainment’s EVP Head of European Business who said the game is strictly an expansion and an enhancement to the previous game. It does have that special substantial Miles Morales component which is the expansion element but the game also features major enhancements to the game engine deploying some of the major PlayStation 5 technology and features.
Miles was born in Brooklyn. His father Jefferson Davis was a police officer and his mom Rio Morales was a teacher. Young Miles had a proclivity for technology which eventually led him and his friends to develop a phone application that allowed them to hack into almost any technology including military-grade equipment.
Miles was first seen in the game video tapping the battle between Spider-man and Inner Demons during the climax of the mission Straw. Players get to control him in the And the Award Goes to… mission where his father was killed by Inner Demons while trying to protect a crowd from bombers. Understanding the pain of losing a father figure, Peter has Aunt May reach out to Rio, hoping that working under F.E.A.S.T. will help Miles process his grief. While working there, he saved the lives of those sick from Devil’s Breath. Later, while on a supply-run for some meds, he came across Scorpion and Rhino from the Sinister Six. He also saved Spider-Man with a little help from Mary Jane Watson. It was at the shelter where he was bitten by an Oscorp that escaped from Norman Osborn’s secret lab. That incident ultimately led to his super-powers which he revealed to his friend Peter Parker.
Later when he came to know about Peter’s secret identity, he demanded some training from him. Though Peter was not to all willing to let Miles risk his life by following his footstep, he finally had to agree when Miles told him he used his powers in a basketball match and agreed to never do so again if only Peter agrees to train him. Peter was later seen training Miles during the Maggia gang wars in the Turf Wars chapter and in the post-credits scene of Silver Lining.
Powers and Abilities
And here’s the fun stuff. After being bitten by the experimental Oscorp spider, Miles developed increased senses and some pretty interesting superhuman powers, sticking to surfaces and “spidey” sense being some of them. He can also go camouflage which makes him effectively invisible and lets him attack his enemies from wherever he wants to without giving them even the slightest idea. Also, he learned ‘venom blast’ which can administer a bio-electric shock to his enemies. Other than that, Miles was also a very capable mathematician and a skilled hacker. Being a selfless and intelligent young man, he was willing to put his life in danger for those he cared about. We know this from when he saves a civilian from Ryker’s escapees, or when he tries to fight back when assaulted. He was equally savage asking Peter if he has put a phone in his suit.
The game is fairly well-received especially because of its completely new story. This allows players who haven’t really played the original game join in and start from here without missing a beat. As well as the old fan base can enjoy a new episode in the web-slinging series. The graphics looked great and the features of Play Station will only make it better no doubt. The game will boast near-instant loading, ray-tracing, 3D audio, DualSense controller including 4D scans, improved skin shading, and spline-based hair for more realistic gameplay. The city looks and feels better.
Being announced at the Play Station 5 release event on June 11, 2020, the game is set to release in Q4 2020. The date is yet to be announced.
