MARVEL’S AVENGERS Release Date
The wait is finally over! Marvel’s Avengers will be getting it’s first War Table stream on June 24 which will unveil ‘new gameplay and co-op’ footage.
Marvel’s Avengers is an upcoming open-world action-adventure game developed by Crystal Dynamics and Eidos Montréal and published by Square Enix. Inspired by the prolonged comic book mythology and the cinematic stories, this epic third-person multiplayer game will offer a co-op mode where players can assemble a team of heroes of their own from the playable characters. Other than that, the player can also opt to play offline in a single-player mode. Playable characters include 5 of the founding members of the Avengers – Captain America (Steve Rogers), Iron Man (Tony Stark), Black Widow (Natasha Romanoff), Hulk (Bruce Banner), and Thor Odinson with a fairly new face Ms. Marvel (Kamala Khan). The game will have several customization options like abilities and costumes which again can be upgraded in a skill tree.
We know that game’s storyline would be completely disconnected from the Marvel Cinematic Universe and now, we know what that shapes up to be like. It all begins on A-Day where the Avengers were celebrating the foundation of their second headquarters in San Francisco and the reveal of their own helicarrier powered by a Terrigen crystal. But things went astray when Taskmaster shows up leading a terrorist attack on the city which results in destruction in most parts of the city including the Golden Gate bridge and the apparent death of Captain America. The Avengers were blamed for the incident and they all went their separate ways. Five years later, a science-based organization A.I.M controls the city and the members of the Avengers are outlawed. With the world in danger once more, Ms. Marvel exposes a shocking conspiracy regarding A.I.M and embarks on a quest to re-assemble Avengers. The Earth’s Mightiest Heroes come together once again and avenge Captain America’s death and uncover the true offender behind the A-Day incident. Titan Books have published two tie-in books for this game. The first one was titled Marvel’s Avengers: The Extinction Key and was released on March 31, 2020. This a prequel to the game and set up the game events in motion. The second book is titled Marvel’s Avengers: The Art of the Game and will be released on September 1, 2020. It will offer a detailed view of the environments and missions of the game.
Marvel’s Avengers was set to release on May 21, 2020, but it has been pushed back to adjust and upgrade the graphics due to the negative responses from the viewers. The developer team worked through the COVID-19 pandemic to “finish what they started” and deliver the game fans what they deserve. Recently, they shared a video on the Marvel’s Avengers twitter where they announced the release date of September 4, 2020. It’s set to release on Play Station 4, Xbox One, PC, and Google Stadia.
The game faced mixed reception when it was first unveiled because of the graphics. The familiar faces just looked too unfamiliar. Also from the first trailer, it wasn’t clear what kind of game it was shaping up to be. The combat actions were clean but they needed to be polished. The story feels very Marvel which is always well received. According to Rich Briggs, the team started with the abilities and then worked onwards as they wanted to make those characters the ways the players wanted them to be. That might explain the initial criticism of the graphics. However, the dev team worked hard during these tough times and we are looking forwards to how they finalized the game.
